POSITIVE LIGHT IN THE COVID FOG OF WAR
The global COVID-19 pandemic continues its destructive force on businesses. Many are on the edge of survival. Unemployment rates continue to rise.
It is extremely difficult for organisations to intelligently plan as they are unsure of what the immediate future looks like. It remains an uncertain time for business owners, executives and employees.
The impact on mental health has been substantial. It has been very difficult for many individuals to cope. Sometimes its difficult to remain positive in the daily fight for survival.
So here’s a few positive thoughts for those who may be doing it tough, or may face a challenging time in the future.
1. THE FOG WONT LAST FOREVER
Right now, and perhaps for the immediate future, the fog of war is thick. It’s sometimes difficult – if not impossible – to see where we are going. It’s a little daunting because it puts us off balance because we don’t have the level of control that we once enjoyed. It’s unnerving.
Remember: the fog will clear. Soon, the sun will shine through and the fog will give way to blue sky.
Things will start to get better. It’s just a matter of time. Don’t give up too soon. Sometimes things can just as easily change for the better from an unexpected source. Look forward with anticipation, not despair. It will increase your chances of success.
2. IT’S NOT ‘YOU’ — COVID IS UNFAIR AND DISCRIMINATORY
The effect of COVID is highly discriminatory. Some industries are heavily hit, while others are booming.
The effect that COVID has had on ‘some’ businesses and individuals is, absolutely, unfair.
Remember: if you or your business are impacted, do ‘not’ blame yourself.
Mental health is important. Now isn’t the time to be a victim or for thinking that you could have done something better or different in the past to avoid the current situation.
Chances are, you couldn’t have.
It’s much better to focus on the future. You need every bit of energy focused in the right direction.
3. BE CONFIDENT & KEEP MOVING
After a while of ‘being down’ it’s easy to lose your confidence.
Remember: you’re likely to have achieved many great things in the past. There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t achieve them again now, or in the future. It may be a little harder, but it is possible. And it will get easier as time goes on.
What’s important is that you keep moving with confidence. Make sure that, every day, you take one small step forward. It doesn’t have to be big. It doesn’t have to be huge.
But it does have to be a step.
Lots of small actions add up over time. And they will pay off in the end.
4. THERE’S ALWAYS HELP – YOU’RE NOT ON YOUR OWN
It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you are from, there is always someone who will help or support you.
Remember: people ‘do’ care about you. Don’t be afraid to reach out.
Help is not far away. Do connect with someone that you can share your thoughts and frustrations with. Don’t let them build up inside. Sometimes the fear of the problem can be bigger than the problem itself and simply get in the way. Talking to others can often put things into perspective.
It is my sincere hope that you, or colleagues that you know, can get through this challenging period.
Be positive.
The light is coming.
Soon, the fog will lift.
